Sculpture for Non-Majors
Spring semester of my freshman year of college I had the
opportunity to take a Sculpture for Non-Majors course
here at CU Boulder.
This course focuses on the manipulation and application of materials you probably have never worked with in the past. From wire to cardboard, this amazing hands-on and thought-provoking class, challenges you to think outside the bubble of your major and create something beautiful.
Below are the 3 material types and projects I created spring semester of 2021!
Contour Wire Sculptures
I was tasked with creating 4 sculptures in total
3 Kitchen Tools & 1 Main Piece
Each sculpture was to be made out of one continuous piece of rebar wire!

Above is a carousel of my 3 different kitchen tools!
I chose to recreated wire versions of a:
-
Pizza Cutter
-
Mini Spatula
-
Can Opener

Pictured to the left and right is my main wire sculpture.
I wanted to create a piece that paid tribute to my home in Arizona as well as my new transition to Colorado.
Each cactus is made of one continuous piece of wire and placed into the wood based I cut, sanded, stained, and drilled. I wanted to create the imagery of my family's cactus garden back home.
In the center of the garden I created a makeshift pine-tree representing my new home here in Boulder Colorado.
