SkillsUSA Cardboard Boat Competition
Every year, Chandler Unified School District allows
for schools around the district to have their SkillsUSA students compete in a cardboard boat race.

Our team's boat inspiration.
In February of 2020, my four teammates and myself spent two weeks building a boat solely out of duct tape and cardboard. While we spent many hours on this project, it was simply for fun, no awards, recognitions or trophies were involved in this competition.
My teammates and I used our past knowledge from our high school engineering classes as well as many online references from previous SkillsUSA students to build a boat that held over 300 pounds!
While this competition was extremely lighthearted, it was still a great challenge working with a limited list of materials as well as working together as a group and keeping an open mind to everyone's ideas.
I am so fortunate to have been a part of such a fun and skill-building club throughout my years in high school.
